The Backable List: Episode 1

The crowd has spoken.

Recently, we posted on our Facebook page asking if people would be interested in learning about cool people and projects to back, both within the crowdfunding universe and beyond.

We got a great response.

And now, without further ado, here is the first episode of our Backable List.

It's a Shareable Life

Chelsea Rustrum wants you to know that “It’s a Shareable Life.” She and her co-authors are producing a guide based on their experiences saving money, making money, and in general living large by “sharing the wealth” of their everyday lives. For example, did you know that you can offset the cost of your living situation by opening up your space on Airbnb? And did you know that you can actually get paid to own a car by renting it out when you don’t need it? You’ll be amazed at the creative ways in which you can access the lifestyle you want without having to break the bank to do it.

Tammi Williams is using her running skills to help in the battle against blood cancer, and keeping an insightful blog along the way. Asking for sponsorship to raise money for a good cause has been around for a while, but a new twist on an old formula makes the endeavor that much more engaging. With a live record of the work she’s doing, Tammi keeps herself accountable, and also continually spreads the message of her good work and the ongoing need for awareness.

Check out her personal journey on her page of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society “Team in Training” site.

Kids with Autism Hacking up 3D Tech Goodness (iSTAR5) is looking to expand their program!

iSTAR5 started working with Google Sketchup after realizing that kids with ASDs (autism spectrum disorders) are kickass at 3D modeling. They’re now training all sorts of tech wunderkinds in a variety of formats (i.e. summer camp, after school classes, etc.), and looking to expand to a New York location. Check out these stats: they’re led by academics from the University of Utah, fueled by ongoing research, and endorsed by professor, advocate and cow-whisperer Temple Grandin.

Hope you enjoyed this list! We’ll be back soon with more great projects for your perusal.
